I couldn't agree more. Craziness. Went to see 'The Importance of Being Earnest' last week (here in Melbourne) with my daughter (10 years old), she LOVED it, as I did. We'd taken her to the theatre before, to see 'Wicked' and 'Hairspray' but this was her first actual play - no singing!
You're scarily right about people not knowing, the story about the Happy Meals is a classic!

What the *tweet*? Are people so *tweet*-ing self-absorbed that they cannot become engaged and enraptured in a live performance?

It's not a smart phone anymore. It's an "I'm so caught up in myself that I cannot pay attention to my immediate surroundings or others who are RIGHT THERE IN FRONT OF ME" phone.

And what would they tweet?

- Front row center at The Book of Mormon. It rox!

- Harry Potter can sing?!

- Kim Kardashian is sitting next to me! She's overflowing into my seat tho.

My tweet? *Tweet* u public theater.

Love this post Cranky! You've given us a real life example of, ' If we don't have real worries, we have to make them'! I know Cranky will turn those tables in no time. I will be expecting a call soon from Cranky's PA to schedule our next meeting :)

As Jimmy Stewart said to the ever lovely Donna Reed just the other night ... gee, Mary ...
Then at the end the punchline: "No one is poor who has friends".
Don't you think Frank Capra would have like to be along for lunch to capture your expressions as your 'patron' blew your mind with the same old story? An American Story! Dreiser couldn't put fire and water together any better. It's elemental! (And Monty would have been great at lunch, right?)
(I met that woman when I drove a cab in Manhattan overnights. She was a kooky Professional Golfer back then.)
And, you didn't fall in to the trap of swapping the city hustlers for the ranch rustlers. Wise choice. (Look what almost happened to Lolita.) So presumably you'll be paid as soon as your case comes up in The People's Court. The case of the Reluctant Cowgirl?
You may find you have more friends than you realized - not all of whom necessarily want to sleep with you. You are after all: Cranky, an Actress and Playwright and Explorer. The gist will be grist. Flowers for the mill. Yielding a rich dusting that will reveal the path of even the Invisible man.
